The Ministry of Culture is preparing to host a week-long celebration titled “243 Years Under the Royal Grace of Rattanakosin,”

The Ministry of Culture is preparing to host a week-long celebration titled “243 Years Under the Royal Grace of Rattanakosin,” taking place from April 23 to 27. The event commemorates the establishment of Rattanakosin as the capital of Thailand in 1782 under King Rama I. A range of cultural, historical, and religious activities will be held across three main venues in Bangkok.

Festivities follow a traditional deity worship ceremony held on April 20 at Chulalongkorn University, where Minister of Culture Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol presided over a sacred blessing conducted by a royal Brahmin priest. The ritual is intended to bring auspiciousness ahead of the national observance.

Events will be spread across Chulalongkorn University’s Centenary Park, the Bangkok National Museum, and Wat Prayurawongsawat. Attractions include an art exhibition, Thai classical and contemporary performances, artisan markets, regional cuisine showcases, and cultural workshops. The program also features night-time museum tours, outdoor films, and various hands-on cultural demonstrations.

Wat Prayurawongsawat will host a community-themed temple fair highlighting the heritage of the Kudi Chin and Khlong San neighborhoods. Activities include merit-making, temple cycling tours, folk music competitions, and a tri-faith culinary showcase that represents the area's religious diversity.

To support public access, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority will provide additional service on four bus routes during the event to help ease travel for residents and visitors attending the festivities throughout the city.
